Seed Library Hours — Open Through June 7
The seed library is open whenever Miller Library is open! In addition, volunteers are available twice a week: Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional seeds are available during these hours.
Please follow our posted guidelines, and remember to write down what you take. This helps us as we decide what seeds to have available next season, and also shows our supporters the value the seed library provides. By the end of March you have selected over 1,000 seed packets!
Local Seed Donations
We accept donations of your seed packet leftovers (less than a few years old) and seeds you have collected from your garden, using the guidelines from seedsavers.org. If you are new to saving seeds, look for our workshops on this topic, which will be held later spring or early summer.
A Brief Look at the Rest of the Year
The Seed Library continues with programming through the year. Highlights include planting for the fall season, seed saving, garlic give, and an expanded series of winter sowing of native and pollinator plants!
Our Continual Thanks
The Seed Library would like to thank The Friends of Hamden Library, NewAlliance Foundation, The Greater New Haven Green Fund, and The Hamden Land Conservation Trust for their generous support and guidance, as well as Hart Seed, Cheshire Garden Center, UConn Master Gardener program, and local gardeners who — more and more — are sharing their seed bounty with us.
We are also pleased to thank and acknowledge our committed volunteers who provide programming and staff the Seed Library: Betsy, Diane, Jim, Joan, Judie, Laurie, and Nancy.
Are you a Master Gardener or knowledgeable gardener? Feel free to contact us to discuss ways you can volunteer with the Seed Library!
