Library Cards
Hamden Public Library cards are issued free of charge to Hamden residents.
To obtain a library card, adults must present a current CT driver’s license or CT State ID with current Hamden address or a photo ID with one of the following: Checks imprinted with name and address; current motor vehicle registration; apartment lease agreement; or recent utility bill. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is able to supply proof of residency.
Students enrolled in a Hamden college or university and living in Hamden may also apply for a library card with proof of current academic year enrollment. The card will be valid through the end of the academic year and may be used only within the Hamden Public Library system.
Residents of other Connecticut municipalities who wish to borrow from the Hamden Library must present a valid hometown library card and a valid CT driver’s license with current address or other ID with name and address. With these you may register for borrowing privileges at the Circulation Desk at any Hamden Public Library location.
If you lose your card, you can purchase a replacement for a lost card at the Circulation Desk. The replacement cost is $3.00. Hamden residents may use their valid current Hamden library card to check out items at any public library in the State of Connecticut.
