On March 15th from 1pm to 3 pm, Miller Library will be hosting a workshop on emotion regulation for students. This workshop is part of a research study being done by Yale Child Study Center’s Hair Lab & Education Collaboratory.
The workshop will include pamphlets for parents, sensory activities for students, and a self-assessment measuring students’ emotion regulation strategies. The purpose of this research study is to investigate if there is a correlation between the emotion regulation strategies utilized by children and their stress-related hormone levels.
Participating in the research portion of the workshop is optional and includes:
- Filling out a questionnaire about your child’s nails and demographic information
- Taking nail samples from your child (like you are clipping nails at home!)
- Asking your child to take the Student Emotion Regulation Assessment (SERA created by the Education Collaboratory at Yale CSC)
During nail sample collection and the assessment, we will be providing parents with pamphlets and details on how to help your child regulate their emotions. After the students are done with the SERA, we will partake in sensory activities, to use when they experience strong emotions!
