Charlie Watts, the drummer for the what some might say is the World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band, The Rolling Stones, died on August 24, 2021. Just two weeks earlier, he announced that he was sitting out their upcoming tour for medical reasons. He was their drummer for over 50 years and is considered, despite his understated demeanor, to be the bedrock of the group.
Open Culture provides a look at a Stones performance from the drummer’s point of view and a look at Charlie himself with clips from footage that was shot by Martin Scorsese for his Shine a Light documentary about the group’s 2005 – 2007 A Bigger Bang tour.
