Teen Department

The Hamden Public Library is a safe space for teens. It is a place for studying, reading, collaborative work, and hanging out. Our Teen Center offers comfortable seating, computers, charging stations, card and tabletop games, coloring, events and programs, videogames, and of course, books, manga, and graphic novels.

Located on the second floor of the Miller Memorial Library, the Teen Center is open to Hamden youth in grades 7–12 (or their homeschool equivalent) Monday through Friday from 2:45–5:00 pm. As the space is designed specifically for teens, we request that non-teen patrons access teen materials and then enjoy other spaces in the library.

In order to foster a space that is safe, inclusive, and positive for everyone, we ask
Hamden’s teens to adhere to the following agreements:

• I will respect library property and the property of the other teens in the space.
• I will only eat or drink in designated areas and clean up all trash afterwards.
• I will keep my hands to myself, including PDA, play fighting, and one person per chair.
• I will use respectful language while in the library.
• I will wear appropriate clothing, including shoes.
• I will pick up my space to keep the Teen Center clean for others.
• I will use an indoor voice and use headphones when listening to media.
• I will respect staff, other patrons, and fellow teens, with my words and actions.
• I will abide by all official Hamden Public Library policies.

I may receive up to two warnings or be asked to leave at any time for violating any of
these agreements. I can be warned or asked to leave by any adult who works in the
Teen Center or the library. When asked to leave, it means leaving the Teen Center as
well as the library building.
