Seed Library Garlic Kits

Important note! We have reached our limit for guaranteed kits.
Feel free to fill out the form, and you will be placed on a waiting list. You will also be added to the Seed Library mailing list.
In the meantime, if you are at a farmer’s market where someone is selling garlic (not the regular, store-bought variety), ask them if they can provide you with some to plant. We estimate that two full bulbs will plant a four-foot row in your garden. The bigger the cloves you start with, the better your results will be.

Hamden Library Seed Library is pleased to share garlic kits for planting this fall. Each kit should have enough garlic to plant a four-foot row (about two bulbs) and a growing guide.

Understand that you will need to prepare your garlic bed in advance. Follow the guidelines in this article. Be prepared to get your garlic cloves in the ground by about November 15 (which is generally about four weeks before the first hard frost in our area).

Garlic will be available for pickup after noon on Thursday, November 9, Monday, November 13, and Tuesday, November 14, just before and after the Veteran’s Day holiday, at the Hamden Library branch you specify below.

We would like to thank local beekeeper and garlic grower Vincent Kay, who grows tens of thousands garlic plants each year, and The Friends of the Hamden Library for this special sharing.l
