Teen RoomThe teen space and programs are open to teens in 7th grade - 12th grade. While here you can attend a program, read books and magazines, play a game, get homework help or just hang out with your friends. This is your library, and we want you to enjoy your time while here. Let us know if you have any suggestions for the collection, programs or teen area! Come in and chat with the Young Adult Librarian Alyssa Bussard, or email her at

The goal of the Teen Advisory Board is to provide real leadership experience to positive, responsible, and energetic students (grades 7-12.) One of our main goals of The Teen Advisory Board is to promote library services to teens at The Hamden Public Library. We wish to strengthen the Library’s ties to teens in the community by using their knowledge and creativity to create programs and further expand our collection. If you want to make a difference and offer your voice in the library and community, then TAB is for you! Meetings are currently being held every third Wednesday at 5pm.

2016 High School Summer Reading

There is no required list from which students must choose a book. Instead, students can choose books based on their reading tastes. The only restrictions are that the books are not part of any previous years' curriculum and one book must be fiction.

Note-taking Sheet: Taking notes is strongly encouraged, but will not count toward credit received for summer reading.

Looking for great options for summer reading? Check out the lists compiled for the 2016 CT Reads or ask a Librarian! The Hamden High School Media Center is going to be open from 9am-12pm the following Wednesdays in the summer: June 29, July 13 and 20, August 3 and 10.

Teen Nutmeg Books

The Hamden Public Library invites readers from grades 7 & 8 to get acquainted with the 2017 Nutmeg Book Award Nominees. Our Nutmeg Book Blog provides brief descriptions of each book and links to more information about the authors. Best of all you can leave your comments about each book you read and join our 'straw pole' for your favorite.
